Instant — usually under a minute
This transfer pair is marked instant and typically posts within seconds to a few minutes. Even so, occasional system delays happen — wait until you see the points in your destination account before doing anything else. These are typical times, not guarantees — always confirm award space first because transfers can't be reversed.
Cancellation: cancellation has a fee
$50-$200 redeposit fee (by cabin/distance) plus $25 booking fee that is never refunded.
Fee: ~$50Window: Anytime pre-departureTaxes: Partial refund
Points expiration
Capital One: Capital One miles never expire as long as your card account remains open.
LifeMiles: Avianca LifeMiles expire after 12 months of no activity. Easy to reset with a small partner earn or buying as little as 1,000 miles.
Heads up: your Capital One points don't expire, but LifeMiles points (after transfer) do.
Step by step
  1. 1
Open your card and click View Rewards
Log in to capitalone.com and open the Venture/Venture X card that earns miles. In the dark card-summary bar, click "View Rewards" under Rewards Miles.
  2. 2
    Pick "Transfer rewards"
On the "How would you like to use your Miles?" screen, click the Transfer rewards tile (the airplane icon).
  3. 3
Find LifeMiles in the partner list and click Transfer Miles
Capital One shows featured partners first, then the full list. Scroll to LifeMiles — the ratio shown should be 1:1 — and click Transfer Miles on its row.
  4. 4
Enter your name and LifeMiles member number
The Primary Cardholder name must EXACTLY match the name on your LifeMiles account, or the transfer can be delayed. Type your member number twice to confirm, then click Next.
  5. 5
Enter the amount and click Complete Transfer
Type how many miles to move (1,000 minimum). The "Equates to" line shows what you'll get in LifeMiles miles. Click Complete Transfer. All transfers are final — confirm award availability on LifeMiles.com first.
  6. 6
    Save the confirmation
You'll see a Success screen with a confirmation code and an email receipt. Capital One transfers usually post within 24 hours but can take longer for some partners.
